ROBERT SLINGSBY

QUINTESSENTIAL SLINGSBY 3
2016
Charcoal and pastel on Arches Cotton Paper
79 x 74 cm

This portrait is part of a series which are quintessentially Slingsby, hence the title for the series “Quintessential Slingsby”. They are quintessential because throughout Robert’s career has drawn, painted and even sculpted in bronze portraits which are characterised by the anatomy which makes up a face, being part of free flowing lines. The line has always been very important to Robert, and every phase of his art, when “unpacked” or analysed, can be understood as working with lines. The lines become part of the anatomy or at times give definition to colour blocks.
